Joost Swarte and Some Other People

If you're anywhere near the Baltimore/Washington DC area this weekend, or if you're anywhere near the east coast at all, stop by SPX, The Small Press Expo in Bethesda, Maryland. It's always been one of my favorite conventions, being a near perfect blend of gritty, quick xeroxed minicomics and polished silkscreened and lithographed eye candy. And this year you'll get a chance to meet the inestimable talent that is Joost Swarte in person. What's not to like?

I'll be at table D15, almost directly across the aisle from Fantagraphics (and Joost Swarte will be just around the corner from them). I'll be hiding behind the second printing of The Three Paradoxes and piles of t-shirts. Stop by, say hello, and ask where the restroom is.

His style is very similar to Hergé style, "La Ligne claire".

Agreed, though I think that illustration in particular is a bit closer to Hergé's style than is typical of Swarte... I mainly just chose it because I loved his version of Descartes.

I also like this picture very much. I bought one of 35 lithos of the Descartes-picture on a business-trip to Amsterdam a year ago. It was how I discovered Joost Swartes drawings. I have heard that there will be published a book in English with his pictures. Have you heard anything about this?

Trond,

I think I heard something about this... hopefully it comes to fruition. I only have one collection of Swarte's work that I picked up while in Switzerland, and I've been looking to get more since.
