MoCCA Signings and Whereabouts

If you're in New York this weekend, be sure to stop by the MoCCA festival, where persons of varying repute and hair sculpture will be feverishly signing and slinging comics.

Below is the information on the signing schedule at Fantagraphics (tables J1,J2, K1, and K2) where I'll be for an hour each day. I'll also be floating by Random House's set up, wherever that will be, as they should have a preview of next month's Life with Mr. Dangerous.

If you don't catch me at either of those, just throw a homemade plush doll of Doctor Who at me while I'm trying to find a water fountain.

See you there.

MoCCA 2011

In a last minute addition to increasingly nutty travel plans, I'll be attending this year's MoCCA Festival in New York, April 9th and 10th. I'll be signing at Fantagraphics table and will occasionally be at Random House's, where rumor has it some conglomeration of pages/print-outs resembling my new book will be found. More exact signing times, etc. will be posted when I have them.

C2E2, This Saturday

Today marks the beginning of C2E2 in Chicago and I'll be joining in the frenzy, albeit briefly.

While I'll be walking around today looking around at old toys and back issues of "Jimmy Olsen" and "Dotty Dripple and Taffy," I'll be sitting in one place taking your complaints and signing your dog from 2 to 4 tomorrow. I'll be housed by the reputable people of Chicago Comics, booth 526 (according to the current floor plan). Stop by, say hello, and demand that I stop using that high pitched voice when I talk with your dog.

Why did you bring so many dogs anyway?

Tonight at Quimby's! Exquisite!

Besides being behind on posting this week's shirt design (the next two months worth of shirts are finished, I just haven't posted one for this week), I'm behind on posting a reminder that tonight I'll be at Quimby's alongside Jenny Volvovski, Matt Lamothe, Lauren Nassef, Isaac Tobin, Lilli Carre, and Anders Nilsen signing The Exquisite Book, an exquisite corpse from 100 artists. I've yet to see the book, but I'm looking forward to it, and to decorating your copy with all five hundred of the letters that make up my last name. If you're in the Chicago area, stop on by and say something under your breath at us.

Strange Tales and Saturday Signing

As promised, here are a couple scans of my story for the upcoming Strange Tales Volume 2. I can now authoritatively say that drawing Colossus beating the snot out of Colossus (or is it the other way around?) is a good time.

As for Strange Tales Volume 1 and any other books that have the misfortune to contain my name, I'll be signing those tomorrow, April 17th, from 12 to 2 at Chicago Comics booth at the C2E2 convention. Stop by and say hello if you can get through all the sweating hobbits carrying their over-sized tote bags.

One More Time, With Wind

Thanks to everyone who came out last night to the gala at the Fantagraphics Book Store. It was a great way to cap the west coast leg of our book tour, which has been phenomenal. It's been a pleasure talking with everyone and spending time with art geniuses like Jesse LeDoux and Jason Munn along the way.

We have one last event in our dual tour, which I've completely forgotten to post previously. We'll be heading directly from the airport to Home Room's 101 Lecture Show at the Hungry Brain in Chicago to give a final slide show presentation, answer people's questions, sign books, and try to get the feeling back in our toes after re-embracing Chicago's chill.

Here's the information about the event:

The 101 Lecture Show
The Hungry Brain, 9PM
2319 W Belmont
Chicago, IL

Thanks again to everyone. We'll hope to see some of you on Monday.

San Diego: All and Sundry and Four Face

This Thursday through Sunday, I'll be joining the sea of sweat and often unnerving enthusiasm that is San Diego Comic-Con. I'll be signing All and Sundry – the collection from Fantagraphics that will be debuting at the show – as well as selling copies of the limited run of Four Face.

Four Face is a series of fifty unique books, each containing four original cubist-esque drawings of, you guessed it, faces. No book will have the same contents as any other book, no faces will be repeated. Come by the table and select your favorite (or request yourself cube-ized if I haven't wrapped up the series by then), take it home, hack it apart, hang up the pages if you like. No one can stop you, no one! (cue wringing of hands, maniacal laughter).

Here are the hours we can stare at each other and try to figure out what that guy who just walked by is supposed to be dressed up as... (a hairy smurf? A sentient turd? Wayne Gretzky in a blender?):

FANTAGRAPHICS, BOOTH 1716
Thursday: 3-5PM
Friday: 11AM-1PM
Saturday: 11AM-1PM
Sunday: 12-2PM

See you in San Diego. And remember: spandex probably wasn't a good idea.

Tonight in Brooklyn, MoCCA this weekend

If you're in town for MoCCA, or just in town to be in town: I'll be signing books and the brand new (above) print at Desert Island in Brooklyn this evening. And I don't know exactly what the below poster is all about, but it's got a lot of great names listed (including Secret Acres, who put out one of my favorite pseudo-recent books: Wormdye by Eamon Espey) and it's apparently after me, so I suppose I'll just have to saunter over to that afterward.

Then on Saturday and Sunday, I'll be signing at the Fantagraphics table at MoCCA. I'll be taking more orders for the aforeposted commissions (my favorite of the batch that came in today involved Patrick Swayze and raining bacon) and trying to remember what I was talking about three minutes ago. I'll be there from 11 to noon on Saturday and 4 to 5 on Sunday. Stop by and hand me a drawing of your mom.

Free Comic Book Day

If you're anywhere near Ann Arbor on Free Comic Book Day (May 2nd), stop by Vault of Midnight and say hello. I'll be signing books, selling some odds and ends I'll be dragging out of the archives, and trying to remember where I got those great pancakes last time I was in town.

Inkstuds, Insect Porn, and Vancouver's Economy

Thanks to everyone who braved the soggy Portland weather for the opening last night. It was a pleasure meeting you and seeing those that I don't see nearly often enough.

Today I (along with my as-of-yet-not-frightened-of-comics girlfriend) will head northward to Vancouver, to give a slideshow/reading at Lucky's.

Last night, through the wonder of pre-recording, I was both at the opening in Portland and on the airwaves in Vancouver, on the venerable Inkstuds radio show. You can listen to the conversation I had with host Robin McConnell (ranging from porn comics to Spiderman's costume to Fletcher Hanks to the economic crisis to Buck Rogers) on the Inkstuds site.

(I didn't realize I had made the same beaver pelt joke in this interview that I did on Guttersnipe. What a comedic faux pas (though in my defense this really was a running joke when I was working for a Canadian printing company, so it's an old standard for me).)

San Diego, Your Times Have Come

The time has come for the parade of wookies, wizards, and woebegone collectors. San Diego Comic-Con is upon us, and I once again will dart in and out as quickly as possible, trying to maintain some semblance of sanity (and picking up some cool toys, hopefully).

The signing times for the Fantagraphics table are below (I'm from 12 to 2 each day, though I may also come in a bit earlier on Friday). The only non-Fantagraphics signing I'll be doing is at the Tick booth (it's true: I drew a one page strip for their 20th anniversary collection) from 2 to 3 pm on Friday (directly after the signing at Fantagraphics).

I'll have original art and a look of existential confusion. Stop by and give both the once over.
