Strange Tales and Lip Balm

The interview I gave (conducted by Sean Collins) for the third issue of Strange Tales is up on Marvel's web site. I digress about everything from British mysteries to ALL detergent. Sort of. My apologies for the inaccuracy in the interview: when the interview was conducted I had planned on Wolverine being the recipient of the lip balm, but for reasons that escape me and hopefully everyone else, I transferred the chapped lips' ownership to Cyclops. I've also never won an Eisner award as the lead-in states, but I will accept this pretend award with hypothetical pride.

Marvel has a couple pages from my story accompanying the interview, or you can see those pages (in a bit easier to view format) along with an exclusive peak of one of Jeffrey Brown's pages for the same issue on Publisher's Weekly's comics blog, The Beat.

Congrats on the pretend award!

British mysteries? You've not been watching Hetty Wainthrop Investigates, have you?

I'll keep your Eisner award with my three Ignatzs if you'd like.

Hetty Wainthrop? I had to look that up. I've seen her before, but was never an avid watcher. Is she the British version of "Murder, She Wrote?"

No, I'm afraid it was just time-honored bits like Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie.

Ron, thanks for storing all those pretend awards. That's awfully generous of you.

Yep, pretty much the British version of Murder, She Wrote in that wherever she went people dropped dead (I've always had a theory that Jessica Fletcher was actually a serial killer). And she had the little hobbit guy from Lost and FlashForward following her around; basically he was the Robin to her Batman.

Jeremy Brett - Best. Holmes. EVER.

No disagreement there. Whenever I see someone else play Holmes I feel like they're just confused: "Don't they know Jeremy Brett's supposed to playing this role?"

I thought I had only ever seen him as Holmes and then was shocked to realize (on re-watching it) that he's the guy singing "On The Street Where You Live" in My Fair Lady (though I'm guessing the singing voice is overdubbed).

All that said, I'd be lying if I said I'm not interested in seeing the new Guy Ritchie/ Robert Downey Jr. Holmes.

Hmmm… not so sure about the Guy Ritchie version myself. The trailers really haven't done much for me, but then again, Robert Downey Jr. is always watchable so I'll probably give it a go.

I'm reading Nicholas Meyer's autobiography at the moment, and I'm thinking I might have to track down a copy of The Seven Per-cent Solution when I'm done…
