Strange Tales II Cover

No posts? No shirts? What gives?

Well, questioning internet, I've been a bit busy, to put it mildly. And unfortunately I can't talk about most of what I'm doing just yet. But at least one of the projects I can talk about:

I just completed the cover designs for Marvel's Strange Tales II collection, due out in April. It was a pleasure to work on the project, with the only difficulty being what to choose out of all the great art in the series. But there was one person whose work I knew I wanted on the cover before I even began sorting through the files: Kate Beaton, who is, in my humble opinion, one of the best, most pitch-perfect cartoonists working today.

This Book

This book is in our bathroom.

The writing is ten kinds of horrible, the cover is eight of great.

Thank you for your eyes.

Maps of The Fictitious World

Two more curios from the digi-distractionary (both via Boing Boing): Maps on the back covers of books (from Dell Books) and a site dedicated to maps and diagrams of comic worlds and characters (the sort of thing I absolutely lost my mind over as a kid, and still find completely satisfying).

And all of this reminds me to wholeheartedly endorse The Eagle Annual of The Cutaways, which is bursting with nerdy dissections of gizmos and transport. (Thanks to Emily for the amazing gift.)

The Order of Odd-Fish Paperback

James Kennedy's delirious and captivating first novel, The Order of Odd-Fish, is available now in paperback, an edition for which I drew the cover. I've yet to see the physical book in this edition, but I can wholeheartedly recommend the story in any incarnation. James' writing is as masterful as it is teetering, skittering, exploding, and crisp.
