Game Over 4

On Friday, Giant Robot San Francisco will open the doors on Game Over 4, a show inspired by video games and their various pixelated worlds. I contributed last year, and am honored to be included again this year.

This time around I had Pac-Man on the brain, due in no small part to google's somewhat recent distraction. And I loved the Pac-Man cartoon. And I had... the record? Yes, I had a Pac-Man 45. And a Sesame Street disco album. That and murder mysteries went a long way toward making me whatever I am today.

I won't be able to make it to the opening, but I'm sure it will be an amazing gathering of arcade and basement born enthusiasm. Here's the skinny:

The Forlorn Funnies Store Launch

Now that I've worked the kinks out of the layout, I'm pleased to announce the proper launch of the Forlorn Funnies Store.

And to celebrate the launch, I've uploaded a batch of lower-priced artwork. (This is one of the reasons I wanted to launch the store, to be able to offer these more random pieces, as well as limited edition books, prints, and odd projects as they come up.)

Last Weekend of Whatever You Want

Game Over 3 at GRSF

March 12th marks the opening of Game Over 3, a show of video game-inspired artwork hosted by Giant Robot San Francisco. If you're in the area, stop by and take a gander. You can see the flickr set of some of the artwork here. And below are my contributions. (Nerd bonus points go to the first person to name all three games that I'm aping.)

The Revenge of Whatever You Want

To help keep the bills at bay while working on the inaugural issue of Forlorn Funnies, I'm once again running a limited time offer (from now through March 14th) to draw whatever you want. And responding to various e-mails and requests, this time around there are more options.

What are the options? You've got three ways to go: your cubist portrait, three word association, and the classic: whatever you want. (I've also provided a few options for various sizes for people wanting larger works (going all the way up to 18 x24").) To explicate the options a bit: you want to see how your mom and your cat look fractured into a non-fixed perspective? The Cubist Option is your friend. You want to spit out three words of your choosing and see what my brain does with them? Go for the Three Word Option. You need to see the bassist of Slayer throwing lawn darts with a panther? Then it's time to get Whatever You Want. Get it 18x24 and make all the other panthers jealous.

As a reminder: these drawings won't be as developed as finished pages from a book or commercial work, but they'll certainly be far, far more rendered than anything I scrawl on a title page at a book signing. (A few examples of last summer's results are above and below.)

The House That Whatever You Want Built

As a bit of a stopgap measure while wrapping up Life with Mr. Dangerous and not taking on any major freelance work, I'm running a limited time experiment: leading into MoCCA (June 6 and 7) and for two weeks afterward, I'll be taking commissions for drawing whatever burps out of your mind. The drawings will each be 7 x 8". $50 for black and white, $100 for color work (colored pencil, that is).

Again, this is a limited experiment (if it goes well, possibly I'll do it again some day... if not, then: not). These drawings won't be as developed as finished pages from a book or commercial work, but they'll certainly be far more rendered than anything I scrawl on a title page at a book signing. So do you need that drawing of the Silver Surfer wrestling a herpes cluster? Have you yearned for a turtle with the head of a steam shovel and the feet of Sylvia Plath? Now is the time. Bring out your weird (or your normal, it's your call). But I reserve the right to be equally weird in my execution: yes, your Abe Vigoda riding a snow crab may be done in a cubist style.
